VetsReady™ · Veterans, VSOs & Employers
The trust-signal audience: what VetsReady™ means for veterans, veteran service organizations, and U.S. employers with expatriate veteran populations.
A certification mark that gives veterans, veteran service organizations, and U.S. employers with expatriate veteran populations a signal about how a provider handles the paperwork behind veteran care under the VA Foreign Medical Program, and how the provider treats veterans through that paperwork.
What VetsReady™ means for you as a veteran
When a provider carries the VetsReady™ mark, it means that a service-disabled veteran-owned small business, Barker and Barker Consulting, has assessed that provider's administrative workflows for handling VA Foreign Medical Program claims, and has assessed the veteran-experience touchpoints where those workflows meet you.
In practical terms:
The paperwork the provider produces should meet VA submission requirements. Whether the provider files directly with VA or hands you a packet to submit yourself, the documentation should be prepared in a way that reduces the chance of an administrative rejection.
How you're treated as a veteran is part of what the certification covers. Front-desk staff should ask about your service at intake. Communication should reflect that staff have received cultural competency training. Your records should move to VA and to your care coordinators in a form they can use.
The word "should" is deliberate. VA is the sole adjudicator of every FMP claim. No certification, this one included, can promise you a payment outcome. What VetsReady™ can promise is that the provider you're seeing has invested in the workflow discipline and the veteran-experience posture that gives you as much control of the process as it is possible to have.
Both provider models are covered:
What VetsReady™ does not promise
Every claim goes to VA. VA decides.
VA does not certify, approve, or maintain a preferred network of international providers under FMP. Any licensed international provider can treat you under FMP. VetsReady™ is a Barker and Barker Consulting private mark, not a VA endorsement.
How the provider treats you clinically is the domain of Joint Commission International, ISO 9001, and national ministry-of-health licensure. The workflow certification and the clinical accreditations are complementary, one about how the paperwork and the encounter are handled, the other about the medicine.
The veteran-experience piece
VetsReady™ certification asks the provider to hold veteran-facing operations to a standard, not just the paperwork.
Intake: a standard question at registration for every patient. "Have you served in the U.S. military?" A record flag. A staff member who knows what to do next.
Cultural competency: staff have received military cultural competency training. They understand that "service-connected" is not just a claims category, it is a fact about your life.
Records movement: your records should move to VA and to your VA care coordinators in a form both can consume, so care coordination does not stop at the discharge doors of the international provider.
Feedback: a proprietary veteran-experience instrument asks you what the encounter with the workflow was like from your side. What you report feeds into how the provider gets recertified.
The veteran-experience outcome is a certified dimension of the mark, not a nice-to-have.
For veteran service organizations
Barker and Barker Consulting welcomes coordination with VSOs, including chartered service officer networks, chapter-level organizations with international presence, and national-level VSOs with expatriate constituencies.
What partnership looks like:
For U.S. employers with expatriate veteran populations
U.S. employers who deploy veteran employees abroad, federal contractors, defense-industrial base companies, energy sector operators, international NGOs, face a specific question: where should our veteran employees go for care when they need something FMP covers?
VetsReady™ certification gives HR benefits leaders and international-assignment coordinators a defensible answer:
What VetsReady™ does not do
To be explicit:
What VetsReady™ does is raise the floor on what you can expect from a certified international provider, both in how they handle your paperwork and in how they handle you.
Certification engagements begin with a partnership discovery call.
