Capability · Operational Excellence & Lean Six Sigma
Kaizen, value-stream redesign, and standard-work discipline led by a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt.
Our founder is a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt with 25+ years of enterprise transformation delivery across healthcare, financial services, and industrial operations. The GAO's federal high-risk work documented ~$100 billion in financial benefits from disciplined improvement over a single two-year update. AHRQ PSNet quantified that a one-unit increase in high-reliability principles is associated with 25% fewer medication errors and 37% fewer patient falls. The methodology is proven. What matters is whether it is deployed as an isolated project, or as architecture.
What we deliver
The Joint Commission's high-reliability framework has a stated goal of zero preventable harm, built from studying industries that achieved reliability outside healthcare. VHA has formally adopted the strategy on three pillars: leadership commitment, culture of safety, and continuous process improvement. We build the operational architecture underneath the HRO commitment.
Master Black Belt-led deployment across hospitals, federal agencies, and industrial operators. Belt certification is not the deliverable. The deliverable is a self-sustaining improvement rhythm.
The EPA published a Lean Government Metrics Guide in 2009; DoD's cross-agency efficiency effort projected $178 billion in five-year savings. Federal Lean is proven practice; the question is whether the agency will operationalize it.
The Master Black Belt track record
Career-wide public performance range: 15 to 30% first-year operational gains where the engagement was architected, not merely project-based.
Engagement models
Four-week architectural read of the operator's current improvement discipline, HRO maturity, and cross-functional operating rhythm.
Prioritized rebuild plan, sized to the organization's real bandwidth. Explicit connection between improvement discipline and business outcome.
Master Black Belt-led certification tracks, but only where the underlying architecture supports self-sustaining improvement.
Quarterly operating-rhythm review, HRO principles audit, and improvement-portfolio prioritization.
Adjacent capabilities
Data-quality initiatives and assessments across clinical and administrative sources.
Denial architecture, rejection-code discipline, and mid-cycle CDI redesign.
AI-enabled RCM, predictive staffing, and touchless workflow architecture.
Federal flagship
Barker and Barker Consulting was named to Team Agile4Vets, one of nine SDVOSB primes on the $14B Integrated Healthcare Transformation 2.0 IDIQ. Our commitments include the operational-excellence capability areas (1E Business Process Reengineering, 1F Change Management, 1G Quality Management) that translate Master Black Belt discipline into VHA task orders. The IHT 2.0 subcontractor briefing and past-performance card are available on request while their public pages are being finalized.
Every engagement begins with a four-week diagnostic sized to your team's bandwidth.
